"Hotel Amarillo" on Wide Open Country's "Best Songs of 2017, So Far"

Honest, relatable and poetic, Caroline Spence’s “Hotel Amarillo” transports the listener to a cold, dark hotel room in the middle of Texas. Only a truly gifted songwriter can explain the empty distance of life on the road in such relatable terms, and Spence hits it out of the park. The impeccable production and accompaniment feels plucked out of Ryan Adams’ “Gold” era, adding grit to Spence’s softly soaring vocals.

"Embracing The Thorns" - an interview with Red Line Roots

There are a lot of songs in the world, so when a collection of them comes along that is the complete package…songs that are both beautiful and deep and poignant in their content as well as the way they are presented, well thats some stuff that hits pretty hard. A distinctive, airy voice that almost floats weightless above some pretty heavy narratives, creating a dynamic that is rich and seizes the listener, forcing your ear to be lent to the stories being sung.

You may have the same reaction to the new record, Spades and Roses, from Caroline Spence. "

NPR Premieres "Hotel Amarillo" Video

""Her airy twang recalls the angelic hurt of The Innocence Mission's Karen Peris, offering a soft blow to the quiet and intricate songs of heartbreak that hit harder on the second go-around. If the deft and delicate Spades & Roses is any indication, Spence is one to follow. After a long night, "Hotel Amarillo" is an audible swig of red..."
